Short Review (For Quick Readers)

✅ A Challenge for Puzzle Enthusiasts
“Murder Mystery” is Stuck In A Riddle’s most difficult room, and it truly lives up to that title! The sheer volume of puzzles kept us constantly engaged, making it a perfect choice for lock-lovers like us. Every challenge felt well-crafted and logical, ensuring a rewarding experience.
✅ Engaging Storyline & Thematic Design
The lab experiment backstory was incredibly well thought out, drawing us in before we even stepped into the room. While not the most immersive space, the vintage furniture and old-world study aesthetic blended seamlessly with the era, enhancing the overall theme.
✅ Thoughtful Game Master Support
Ed, our game master, was fantastic—passionate about the industry and always on hand to guide us just enough without giving anything away. His well-timed nudges ensured we stayed on track while still feeling the thrill of solving the mystery ourselves.
✅ A Unique, Hands-On Experience
This room required us to do more than just think—one player had to crawl, adding an extra layer of fun and interaction. It’s not the most high-tech escape room, but it doesn’t need to be; the period setting and cleverly constructed puzzles made for a truly engaging experience.
❌ Some Elements Were Too Well-Hidden
A few key components blended into the environment so well that they were easy to overlook, causing moments of unnecessary confusion. A little more subtle guidance in their placement could help maintain the flow of the game.
❌ Tricky Input Mechanism
One particular interactive element proved a bit challenging to operate, which momentarily disrupted the flow of the game. While this could have been down to user error, a little more clarity or feedback on how to use it correctly would have helped avoid unnecessary frustration.
❌ Limited Games Master Involvement
The games master took a very passive approach, only providing hints when requested via the walkie-talkie. We prefer a more interactive approach, where the GM steps in when they notice a team struggling.
❌ Prop Overload
While the room had an abundance of puzzles, there were several items that didn’t serve a real purpose, occasionally leading to wasted time. Streamlining or better integrating these elements into the gameplay would improve the overall experience.

Long Review (For Escape Room Enthusiasts)
Arrival & First Impressions
Our latest escape room adventure took us to Stuck In A Riddle in Huddersfield town centre, another local company to us in West Yorkshire. After browsing their website, we quickly set our sights on Murder Mystery, their most challenging room. Always up for a test, we were excited to tackle it—especially as this was only our second time escaping as a team of two.
We were greeted by Ed, our game master, whose enthusiasm for escape rooms was evident from the start. He gave us a thorough rundown of the different locks we’d encounter and set the stage with an intriguing backstory. The lab experiment narrative was so well thought out that, for a moment, we almost believed it was real before stepping inside.
Gameplay & Puzzles
While the room wasn’t the most immersive or atmospheric, it was well-fitted to the theme. The vintage furniture of Lord Farringdon’s study blended seamlessly with the time period, making it feel authentic. However, where this room truly shines is in the sheer volume of puzzles—this is a room for true lock lovers! Fortunately for us, we fit that category perfectly.
There was never a dull moment, with cleverly crafted puzzles that made for a unique murder-solving experience. As with many escape rooms nowadays, one player is required to crawl, which only added to the immersion as we ducked and dived our way through solving the mystery.
Games Master & Hints
Ed was always on hand when we needed him, providing just the right amount of guidance to keep us moving forward without simply giving away the answers. His approach made the experience both engaging and rewarding, allowing us to think critically while knowing he was there to support us if we got stuck.
Not only was he incredibly helpful, but his enthusiasm for the job was evident in everything he did. He had a genuine passion for what he was doing, which made the experience even more enjoyable. His energy and dedication created a positive atmosphere, making a lasting impression on everyone involved.
Final Thoughts
While Murder Mystery isn’t the most technologically advanced room we’ve played, it doesn’t need to be—it fits the historical setting perfectly. We also encountered some new puzzle mechanics, which is always refreshing to see. The storyline was well-structured, gradually revealing clues until we were finally able to solve the murder and escape.
